Rubber Lined Pipe vs. Bare Steel Pipe in FGD Systems

Diposting pada 2026-09-08
In a flue gas desulfurization plant, the slurry circuit runs limestone and gypsum slurry that is both abrasive and acidic — a combination bare carbon steel cannot survive for long, and even stainless grades struggle with chloride attack under these conditions.

A properly selected rubber lining handles both threats at once: the rubber resists the acidic chemistry, and its resilience absorbs the abrasion of the slurry solids. In practice, FGD absorber islands, slurry return lines and gypsum disposal piping are among the largest applications of rubber lined pipe worldwide.

Key points when ordering FGD lined piping: compound grade matched to chlorate level, 4–6 mm lining thickness, matched lined fittings (elbows wear first), flanged spools prefabricated to drawings, and spark test records for every spool. Youwei supplies FGD piping packages on this basis, including supplies for Southeast Asian power projects.
